MEETING OF THE CHURCH CHOIRS OF BANJA LUKA DIOCESE

In the parish church of St. Joseph in the parish of Lištani in Livanjsko polje, on March 30th, annual traditional gathering of the church choirs of Banja Luka diocese was held.

There were 11 choirs with 270 singers from the parishes: Bihać, Banja Luka – Cathedral, Jajce, Livno, Bila, Podhum, Glamoč, Ljubunčić, Livno – Gorica, Čuklić and Lištani. The choir program consisted of a joint celebration of the Holy Mass and the individual performances of each choir.

Concelebrated Mass Celebration was led by the bishop of Banja Luka Franjo Komarica in communion with the local parish priest rev. Ivo Martinović, parish priest and Dean of Livno OFM Vinko Sičaja and six other priests.

The beautiful restored parish church was like never before filled with singers.

The choirs were directed by sister Blanka Jeličić from Livno, and sister Damjana Kovačević, head of the Cathedral choir and long-time organizer of the annual meeting of the choirs in Banja Luka diocese, played.

This year, the “theme” of the choirs was “Lent”, and all the songs during the Mass and during the choir performances were “Lenten”. It was impressive and touching to listen to a well-coordinated joint singing of all the choirs of well-chosen liturgical songs. This was also emphasized by the Bishop in his preaching ceremony, by praising the choirs and their singing at all the parishes of the entire diocese and their faithfulness to the liturgical regulations.

In the individual performances of choirs after the Mass, they performed work of local composers, several ancient native songs and several compositions by foreign composers. The whole choir gathering has gone in an extremely beautiful atmosphere.
