WOUNDS OF ST. FRANCIS ON ZIDINE

At the early Christian place of Zidine (Skakava Gornja), where an ancient Franciscan monastery was located, with a solemn Holy Mass on September 17th, led by the Auxiliary Bishop of Banja Luka, Msgr. Marko Semren, OFM, the feast of the Wounds of St. Francis was celebrated.

The concelebration was attended by about 15 priests, mostly from the Brčko Deanery, and friars from the surrounding monasteries.

“This holy place, known as Zidine, is La Verna of the Franciscan community of this Posavina region”, said, among other things, Msgr. Semren during the homily and explained that the history of the elevation of La Verne for the Franciscan Order is without a doubt one of the holiest. It begins with the meeting of Francis of Assisi and Count Orlando Catania in 1213, when the Franciscans received this mountain as a gift from the nobles, which became a place of prayer and penance.

The Holy Mass was attended by a large number of believers who organized a gathering after the Eucharist.

This feast was preceded by a Triduum held in a penitential spirit with various devotions.
