CELEBRATED FRANCISCAN THEOLOGY DAY

Feast of Bl. John Duns Scotus, the famous medieval Franciscan philosopher, was solemnly celebrated on November 8th at the Franciscan Theology in Nedžarići, which celebrates this Blessed Father as the patron saint of their school.

The celebration program consisted of a Eucharistic celebration and a solemn academy. The Holy Mass was led by Auxiliary Bishop Msgr. Marko Semren who spoke in his sermon of the relation between philosophy and theology in the thought of Bl. Scots.

The Holy Mass was animated by the choir of Franciscan theologians OFM Nenad Dujić under guidance of OFM Emanuel Josić.

Then the ceremonial academy was organized in the amphitheatre of Franciscan theology.

OFM Danimir Pezer, Dean of Franciscan Theology in Sarajevo, gave the opening address, and after the music performances, the program continued with a lecture by Dr. OFM Petar Jeleč, professor of Church history, and theme was Emergence, development and breakup of first Yugoslavia.

The focal point of the academy was promotion of graduates and diploma handing outs. This year, five undergraduate students have completed their studies at Franciscan Theology. They are: OFM Franjo Baraban, OFM Vinćenz Kajtazi, OFM Josip Kapetanović, OFM Nikola Pejčin and Martina Rajić. The Dean of Theology then distributed awards to students who achieved an average above 9 in the past academic year.

The academy ended with the song Negdje mi netko (Somewhere someone) by VIS Jukić.

Otherwise, this year marks the 110th anniversary of the beginning of Franciscan Theology in Sarajevo and 50 years since the inauguration of the new Theology building in the Sarajevo settlement of Nedzarići, where it is today.
